Student Support Officer
Our experienced Student Support Officer is here to assist students with creating a Learning Access Plan (LAP) to ensure that individuals with a disability are given the same equal opportunity to access education. This also includes individuals without a disability who may need additional support.
Our Student Support Officer also assists individuals with various needs with:
- Referrals to external support services for assistance such as financial, social, and psychological
- Assistance with study and learning tips
Reasonable Adjustments
During our inclusive training and assessment we use a learner-centred approach and provide reasonable adjustments for people with a disability. These reasonable adjustments could include:
Training
- Modified presentation of training resources e.g. videos, practical opportunities
- Learning materials and texts provided ahead of time to familiarise to
- VARK Questionnaire during the Induction Process to identify your learning style
- Frequent breaks
Assessment
- Extended or modified timeframes for assessment
- Oral assessments (presentations, recorded responses and telephone sessions) as alternatives to written tasks
- Assistive technology e.g. Talk to Text
- Seek evidence from a third party to demonstrate competence (e.g. statutory declaration, video of the learner undertaking a task)
- Assessments in plain English
- A scribe or Sign language interpreter
